Our MCube consortium

Together - Make it possible

Under the leadership of the Technical University of Munich, MCube brings together a unique network of stakeholders from science, the public sector, business and society in the Munich region. Together, we design sustainable mobility solutions for metropolitan regions.

Enabling

stands for transdisciplinary, interdisciplinary and cross-sector research, strong regional networking and active co-determination.

Possibilities

stands for the courage to pursue experimental and innovative solutions, an open culture of innovation and a strong vision.

Together

stands for implementation orientation, the testing of innovations in real laboratories and the transfer of science into practice and industry.

Our drive

The mobility of the future faces enormous challenges. Climate change, economic change and social justice require innovative solutions to keep Germany competitive, drive forward decarbonization and develop sustainable business models. At the same time, mobility services must be designed in such a way that they benefit everyone equally.

MCube exists to actively shape this change. Our goal is to develop, implement and scale innovations and change processes faster than ever before. In doing so, we rely on the close integration of science, business, politics and society. Because only with broad acceptance can sustainable mobility solutions be successfully put into practice - and thus give new impetus not only to the environment, but also to democracy.

Together we are shaping the future of mobility - efficient, sustainable and accessible for everyone.

Making innovations for the mobility transition - together - possible

MCube aims to make Munich the leading reference region for sustainable and transformative mobility innovations. In doing so, MCube is taking advantage of the unique geographical concentration of innovation players in the mobility sector. As a "learning region", MCube will develop pioneering, scalable solutions with a model character over the next few years - for metropolitan regions in Germany and worldwide.

This long-term cluster has the potential to actively shape the mobility transition beyond the region. Building on existing cross-technology, cross-disciplinary and cross-sector collaborations, MCube brings together key players from science, business and society to realize leap innovations with great economic impact and high solution potential for global challenges.

Our mission

MCube pursues an open and mission-driven culture of innovation that enables the company's mission statement "Making innovations for the mobility transition - together - possible" as an interplay of three missions: improving the quality of time, the quality of space and the quality of air.

Quality of time

Aims to improve the efficiency of the transportation system, particularly in terms of infrastructure capacity and traffic flow. In addition, the focus is on reliable and convenient mobility between everyday locations.

  • Efficiency and comfort:
    • Improved traffic flows and punctuality
    • Convenient access to everyday destinations
    • Reduction of time and costs with multi-intermodality
  • Regional development:
    • Optimize accessibility of workplaces
    • Shorter distances for specific purposes
    • Promotion of cycling and walking at neighborhood level
  • Innovations and framework conditions:
    • Faster approvals for tests and implementations
    • Analyze and adapt political and social framework conditions

Looks at the impact of mobility innovation on public space and regional open spaces. The aim is to create new, diverse recreational and exercise areas that are accessible to the entire population.

  • Increase space efficiency:
    • Less land consumption due to transport infrastructure
    • Space-saving networking of mobility services
    • Lower parking space requirements and private car ownership
  • Creating attractive neighborhoods:
    • Higher quality of stay and longer dwell time
    • Optimized street layout for all user groups
  • Promote safety and health:
    • Improved traffic and social safety
    • Reduction of psychological and physical stress caused by traffic
  • Rethinking framework conditions:
    • Strengthening social dialog and awareness of spatial quality
    • Adapt policy measures to promote sustainable initiatives

Refers to traffic-related environmental pollution. All MCube projects aim not only to reduce local air pollutants, but also to reduce CO2-savings also make a contribution to global climate protection.

  • emissions:
    • Lower CO2 emissions in everyday mobility per vehicle kilometer, per capita and per region
    • Reduction of CO2, noise and local air pollutants in freight, delivery and service traffic
    • Reduction of noise and air pollution (e.g. NOx, particulate matter) in neighborhoods
  • Conserve resources:
    • Holistic reduction of emissions over the entire life cycle of the vehicles ("cradle to cradle")
    • Efficient use of rare resources in production, operation and disposal
    • Improved recycling and disposal measures for different modes of transportation
  • Promoting social change:
    • Raising awareness and acceptance of air quality initiatives through dialog and policy measures
